DR JAMES BACON, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Sydney

WE HAVE MOVED UPSTAIRS TO LEVEL 5!

"I understand that each pregnancy is different and I offer a unique, professional and individualised model of care for you and your baby during the duration of your pregnancy."

I am passionate about developing a rapport with you and your partner to ensure that you not only receive the very best care and advice, but your desired outcomes and expectations are met.

I provide care for all levels of obstetric needs including complex maternal medical issues and illness as well as linking in with other medical and surgical specialists as required.

I am a supporter of normal vaginal deliveries and VBAC (vaginal birth after Caesarean section). However, I am proficient at performing assisted deliveries and Caesarean sections if required.

I can deliver your baby at North Shore Private Hospital, Royal North Shore Private Hospital or The Mater Hospital.

My services include:

  • Infertility and pre-pregnancy counselling
  • Management of antenatal care and birth
  • Post natal management and care

I have also established close relationships with allied health professionals including dieticians, physiotherapists and psychologists to provide my patients the very best of care during pre-conception, pregnancy and post natal care.

Initial Consultation

Your first visit will be at approximately 10 weeks gestation. This appointment will be approximately 30 minutes and will involve a discussion about any significant gynaecological history as well as any previous pregnancies. I will talk to you about any relevant medical or surgical history as well as your family history and any allergies. Questions are always welcomed and encouraged at this visit and future visits.

A thorough physical examination will be performed including an abdominal ultrasound which will confirm your due date. You do not need to prepare for this ultrasound. These images will be saved for you on a memory stick, which you can keep for further visits. During this and subsequent visits many issues will be discussed, including options for first trimester screening, diet, exercise and healthy lifestyle issues.

Following Consultations

I will then see you every 4 weeks until you are 28 weeks gestation, then fortnightly until you are 36 weeks, and then weekly until delivery.  At these visits I will check your blood pressure and the growth of your baby and address any questions that you may have during this time. Your partner/family members are welcome to attend any of these visits.

Postnatal Check Up

Six weeks after the birth of your baby I will see you for a post natal visit. At this visit I will check with you how you are coping with motherhood, perform a physical examination including a pap smear if this is due, as well as discuss contraception.
